The Alliance for Sustainability works with a wide range of community partners including local governments, businesses, educational institutions, members of the agricultural community, and residents, to identify and promote ways of meeting the social, cultural and economic needs of the region without jeopardizing the well-being of future generations or the natural environment.  We are a grassroots organization run by a working board.

Chequamegon Bay Renewable Energy Resources
Near the Chequamegon Bay of Lake Superior in Northwest Wisconsin, a group of local people have pooled their talents and experience to advocate for a renewable energy future. Engineers, educators, entrepreneurs, and public servants make up this ever expanding group and this website, in association with the Alliance for Sustainability. This is the platform to organize, educate, and communicate this message. Want to learn more about renewable energy projects in the Chequamegon Bay area? Want to participate in area events relating to renewable energy? Want to find a local contractor to help you realize your renewable energy project? Or, maybe check what’s going on beyond our region; learn about projects and policies that affect our energy future? This is what this website is all about. We would love to hear from you. Check back often, as this website, like the renewable energy, is constantly evolving.

Farms Not Factories
Farms Not Factories is a grassroots network of communities in the Lake Superior Basin who believe that environmental stewardship, civic engagement, natural resource conservation, local control and sustainable agriculture are inherently connected and vital to building strong, prosperous rural communities. Lake Superior is now faced with the first ever proposal to site an industrial farm operation just eight miles upstream from Chequamegon Bay in northern Wisconsin. Farms Not Factories is a regional response to this threat to Lake Superior and the emerging sustainable agriculture economy of the region.

Living Local in Chequamegon Bay
Sustainable Chequamegon Bay is a crowd sourcing project hosted by The Alliance for Sustainability, a local nonprofit grassroots organization that uses education, celebration, collaboration, and direct action to develop sustainable principles and practices that will foster vibrant and healthy communities in the greater Chequamegon Bay region. This tool is designed to help capture the unique gifts and assets (whether they great people, special places in nature, great local food, amazing local art and culture, entrepreneurial local businesses, unique environmental assets or important local learning resources) that  are already in our region AND fosters a shared vision of a sustainable future.

Our Shores: Ultrarun for the Love of the Lake
We are three friends running around Lake Superior on an expedition that will start in May and end in August 2016. As we circumnavigate the world’s largest freshwater lake on foot, we will collect and share stories from residents as well as gather ecological data about the water and landscape. Throughout this journey we plan to show what’s at stake, as seen through the perspectives of those who live most closely with this body of freshwater. By telling the story of Lake Superior and its people we also hope to foster an understanding of its significance and a greater love and appreciation for its beauty.

To Wisconsin with Love
Documentary by Paulette Moore

"This film is a cautionary story about communities under siege from extractive industry. Using the history of mining and the recent Elk River contamination in West Virginia as a reference, the film looks at the developing story of a proposed mine in the Penokee Hills of Wisconsin. The site is planned to span 22 miles, which would make it the largest open-pit iron mine in the world."
