T is for Traditions
The way we eat is rooted in our cultural traditions.
In the Chequamegon Bay, we are blessed with many rich food traditions from our local indigenous tribes and later settling immigrants. F.E.A.S.T. strives to support healthy food traditions and works to create new traditions where our culture falls short.
The Chequamegon Bay Harvest of the Month program features a different food item each month, emphasizing seasonal, traditional, and nutritious foods. The food item is featured on school menus and students are educated about the food item through nutrition lessons, tastings, an interactive bulletin board in the cafeteria, and a take-home flyer. This program has become a new food tradition for students in the Chequamegon Bay area.
