"Northland College is proud to have a strong local foods initiative. We’re already half way to our goal of having eighty percent of the food served on campus supplied from local sources. Currently nearly twenty farms and businesses within one hundred miles of campus supply the cafeteria with vegetables, fruits, herbs, jams, cider, pork, beef, Lake Superior fish, flour, cheese, eggs, fermented vegetables, bread, granola, honey, maple syrup, ice cream, and coffee.

Why does this matter? For starters, local foods typically have more flavor and are higher in nutrition. But equally as important, eating regionally benefits the environment and supports the local economy. Working to promote a safe and healthy local food supply is a win-win situation for everyone."
